Is Your Local Business Advertising Paying Off?

Is your local business advertising paying off for you? Are you getting your money’s worth from your advertising dollar? Is your advertising strategy bringing new customers or clients to your business or is it costing you more and bringing you less? If these questions are a concern to you, you are not alone. Most businesses on Main Street America are not getting the bang for their buck. Media Motivators may have the answer to your problems.

The economic crisis has had a tremendous impact on Main Street America and thousands of local businesses are suffering, but the economic recession is only part of their problem. Likely as not, they have fallen victim to a massive change in the way people shop or look for services. People may still look in the yellow pages to find the products or services they need but they look on the Internet to check out the business on Google or other search engines before making a decision. Thankfully they still prefer to buy locally, but if they can’t find you on the Internet they may choose to do business with your competition.

Many businesses have put out big bucks for a state-of-the-art website and wonder why it is not bringing in the business they expected. That expensive website may not be worth the hard earned money they paid for it if people can’t find it when they search. Most people, when searching on the Internet rarely look beyond page one and the top three sites get the lion’s share of clicks. If your listing is not one of the top three but still on page one you will get a few clicks but if you are not on page one you are out of luck. Rarely do people look beyond page one so if your site is listed on page two or three the likelihood is they your site will not get the traffic it deserves.

Maybe you are shelling out top dollar for one of those pay per click ads at the top of page one or paying a little less for one of the sideline pay per click ads. Perhaps you are not aware that organic spots on page one get substantially more clicks that the paid ads. Here’s how it breaks down:

The number one paid ad at the top of page one gets about 2% to 3% of clicks. The side paid ads get 1% to 2% of the clicks. The first organic or non paid spot on page one gets approximately 41% to 45% of the clicks. This represents in the neighborhood or 22 times more clicks than the number one paid ad. The number two organic position gets around 11% to 18% of the clicks, approximately ten times more clicks than the number one paid ad. The third organic or unpaid position gets around 7% to 15% or about 500% more than the number one paid ad. Positions 4 through 9 average around 2% or about equal to the number one paid ad. Oddly enough, the number 10 organic position gets about 3% to 4% of the clicks or about twice as many as the number one paid ad. For more precise information go to the following site.

 Times Are Tough:

There’s no doubt about it. People are still losing their jobs, their homes, their saving, their insurance and their dreams for the future. Banks and large corporations have been bailed out to the tune of billions and middle class America is picking up the tab while corporate executives are lining their pockets. The cost of living continues to go up and people are seeing the quality of their life as well as their hopes and dreams eroded by the continuing economic crisis. Many businesses on Main Street America have gone broke and closed their doors while others are hanging on by a thread. Although there are some who, because of the nature of their business, are well positioned to thrive during the recession, whereas most are justifiably worried about their future.

The economic crisis is not the only reason that business on Main Street America need to worry. Americans have been gradually changing the way they shop for the things they want and need and unfortunately many business owners either have not seen it coming, have ignored it thinking that it is just a trend that will pass, have been too busy or too stuck in the traditional means of marketing to avail themselves of the knowledge and tools necessary to make the transition to this new kind of marketing that is the Internet.

Main Street, Not Wall Street:

While most people, over 80% search online before making a purchase and although they shop online the good news is that they like to buy locally. Over 60% of the GDP comes from local business. People who are looking for a plumber, a painter, an electrician, someone to landscape their yard or a provider of a needed product or service may indeed look in the phone book but will also search for the businesses web site to find out more about them before they buy. Problem is that if a business does not have a web site the consumer will more often than not find someone who does.

Unfortunately, having a good website may not be enough. It has been said that 98% of searchers make a selection from businesses listed on page one. In a normal search, the number one spot gets about 41% of the clicks while number two gets around 12% and number three, about 8½. Other positions get fewer clicks. One can see that if a business is not among the first three on page one it is not getting people coming to their site. A business can have the best web site going but if they are not one of the top three, or not on page one at all they are not getting potential customers coming to their site.
